Privacy Policy and Information Security Notice

Effective Date: April 25, 2026 - Gregg the Tax Guy (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to safeguarding taxpayer information in accordance with Internal Revenue Service Publication 4557, Internal Revenue Code §7216, and the Gramm‑Leach‑Bliley Act (GLBA), 15 U.S.C. §6801, including the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 C.F.R. Part 314). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, protect, and disclose client information in the course of providing tax preparation services.

1. Information We Collect

In order to prepare and file tax returns, we necessarily collect nonpublic personal information as defined under the GLBA and IRS regulations, which may include:

  • Names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses

  • Social Security numbers and taxpayer identification numbers

  • Income, deduction, asset, and liability information

  • Business and financial records required for tax compliance

  • Prior‑year tax returns and related documentation

We collect only the information necessary to prepare accurate tax returns and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

2. Permitted Use of Taxpayer Information (IRC §7216)

Under Internal Revenue Code §7216, taxpayer information may be used only for the purpose of preparing, assisting in preparing, or filing tax returns, unless the taxpayer provides prior, written consent for a specific additional use or disclosure.

Accordingly:

  • We do not use client information for marketing, solicitation, or unrelated business purposes.

  • We do not disclose taxpayer information to third parties without legal basis or client authorization.

  • We do not condition services on consent to disclose information.

These restrictions are federal law and apply to all paid tax return preparers. [legalclarity.org]

3. Disclosure of Information

Taxpayer information is disclosed only in the following limited and legally permitted circumstances:

  • Electronic filing of federal, state, or local tax returns with the IRS or state tax agencies

  • Disclosures required by law, including court orders or lawful government inquiries

  • Disclosures authorized in writing by the client, specifying the information and recipient

We do not sell, rent, license, trade, or resell taxpayer information under any circumstances.

4. Data Storage and Safeguards (IRS Publication 4557 / FTC Safeguards Rule)

Consistent with IRS Publication 4557 and the FTC Safeguards Rule, we maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect taxpayer information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. [irs.gov], [ftc.gov], [ecfr.gov]

Specifically:

  • Tax returns and supporting documents are stored offline on secure, non‑internet‑connected storage devices.

  • We do not store client tax data on cloud‑based systems.

  • Access to taxpayer information is limited to authorized individuals with a legitimate business need.

  • Physical safeguards are used to protect stored records from unauthorized access.

Storing taxpayer data offline materially reduces exposure to cyber‑based data theft risks recognized by the IRS and FTC. [irs.gov]

5. IRS‑Required Credentials and Accountability

Gregg the Tax Guy maintains all credentials required of paid tax preparers, including:

  • A current Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)

  • A valid Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN)

  • Authorization as an Electronic Return Originator (ERO)

As an Authorized IRS E‑File Provider, we are accountable for the security and accuracy of all tax returns transmitted electronically. Loss of compliance may result in revocation of filing privileges or regulatory action. [irs.gov], [verito.com]

6. Gramm‑Leach‑Bliley Act (GLBA) Privacy Notice

The Gramm‑Leach‑Bliley Act requires financial institutions—including tax preparation firms—to provide customers with notice of their information‑handling practices and to safeguard nonpublic personal information.

Our GLBA Commitments:

  • We collect nonpublic personal information only to provide tax preparation services.

  • We do not share nonpublic personal information with non‑affiliated third parties, except as permitted or required by law.

  • We maintain safeguards designed to protect the confidentiality and integrity of customer information.

Because we do not disclose information beyond legally permitted exceptions, no consumer opt‑out is required under the GLBA Privacy Rule. [ftc.gov], [ecfr.gov]

7. Data Retention and Disposal

Taxpayer information is retained only for the period necessary to:

  • Comply with IRS and state tax record‑keeping requirements

  • Respond to tax authority inquiries or disputes

  • Fulfill legal or regulatory obligations

When records are no longer required, they are destroyed using reasonable and appropriate methods designed to prevent unauthorized disclosure. [support.ta...yerpro.com]
